The Down Under Crossfit Championships Qualifier (DUCC) took place on the 18-22 August, registered athletes competed in 5 tough workouts. With the top 18 male and female progressing forward to the in-person Championships held in Wollongong on the 18-20th of November. Not only do the top 18 male and female athletes progress through, but the top 5 placing athletes from the Torian Pro (Crossfit Sanctioned Semi- Final Event) back in May, automatically qualify to compete in DUCC. These athletes include Jay Crouch, Ricky Garard, Royce Dunn, Jake Douglas (Fortify Gear Athlete), and Maddie Sturt, that have been confirmed to compete.
Not only is there the Elite Individuals competing but a range of master’s and team categories to add to the weekend. We’ve recently seen some more Games level athletes being released to compete including Lauren Fisher and Aussie Khan Porter both making a comeback with an individual appearance after competing at the Nobull Crossfit Games with team Crossfit Reykjavik from Iceland. More athletes are likely to be announced soon.
Noticeable to mention to the 6 Time Fittest Women on Earth Tia Toomey, Brooke Wells, and Ellie Turner after being announced that they’re competing as an Elite Team. Will they have competition being such a stacked team? Sitting in first place on the Teams- Elite Women’s leader- board after the qualifier we see Teammates Briony Challis, Christy Hollard and Emily De Rooy sitting in first. Challis and Hollard recently competed at the Nobull Crossfit Games as a team, possibly seeing them use this to their advantage against Toomey, Wells and Turner.
Looking at the top 5 for Elite individuals leader board on the:
- Katelin Van Zyl
- Georgia Pryer
- Ro Scott
- Briony Challis
- Grace Walton
- Zeke Grove
- Ben Flower
- Peter Ellis
- Luke Flower
- Rees Machell
All listed athletes above are all Semi-Final levelled athletes and a few being individuals and team Games Athletes. It’s fair to say that the DUCC has a stacked field of athletes and looks to be an awesome competition.
